Ken Williams Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc.
Board of Directors:
Lisette Williams, President/Co-founder; Charles Ogletree, Vice-President; Jonathan “Jay” Todd, Treasurer; Caroline Hunter, Secretary/Co-founder.
From the founders:
The Ken Williams Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc. was created in 1998 upon the passing of Ken Williams, an anti-Apartheid activist, humanitarian, noted photographer, jazz promoter, and avid golfer. Williams was passionate about giving a voice to those who were either unheard or unspoken.
The KWMS Fund has awarded over $30,000 to high school seniors from Cambridge and Martha’s Vineyard.
Two annual scholarships are given to college-bound high school seniors from Cambridge Rindge & Latin School: the Ken Williams Memorial Humanitarian Scholarship ($1000) and the Ken Williams Memorial Art Scholarship ($500). Beginning in 2003, an additional scholarship was awarded to college-bound high school seniors from Martha’s Vineyard Island: the Ken Williams Memorial Humanitarian Scholarship ($1000). In 2007, the KWMS Fund added the Mandred Henry Scholarship for Social Justice ($1000) in honor of the late Mandred Henry.
Mandred Henry, former head of the Martha’s Vineyard NAACP, “worked hard to increase racial harmony and to make sure that equality of opportunity and fairness are applied to all people”. Additionally, he was also a long-time friend and golf buddy of Ken Williams.
